“This electric bass draws its essential lines from the ‘Sporty’ model featured elsewhere on this site. Ketty, my client, was so captivated by the look of that bass that she bought the very first one. Not long after, she expressed both the desire and the need for a fretless version. I didn’t hesitate to take on the project, promising to build it using a special wood—yew, beautiful and cursed. The design was her idea; I simply refined some of the details. The result is an outstanding instrument, both highly responsive and visually striking. This is a one-piece handcrafted neckthru electric bass that follows the design lines of the Shank Instruments “Sporty” model you can see on these pages. The body is made of maple/kingwood sandwich with maple/amaranth laminate neckthru. Passive electronics with splittable Nordstrand “fat stack” pickups.
