“There was something striking, almost regal, about the color combination that emerged as I built this guitar. The idea first came to me years ago when I saw a photo of a Gibson Firebird crafted from two different woods: a bright central strip and darker wings. It immediately convinced me. So when I found myself in the workshop with two padauk boards and a piece of quilted maple, I had no doubts. I dove into creating a Firebird-style guitar that carried an air of royalty, or no, perhaps something even grander. Almost\u2026 papal.\u201d… Let’s Play<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

This instrument, entirely hand-built, is evidently inspired by the ultra-known shapes of the Gibson “Firebird” model. The specifications in terms of body, fingerboard, neck and nut measurements are substantially equivalent to those of the original model. The substantial difference of the version I present here, compared to the original Gibson, is the absence of the neck-thru construction system, in this case replaced by the classic set-in joint system. The banjo-type tuners shown in the photos were later replaced with a new, more suitable set from Steinberger Gearless. The fretboard custom dots are made of aluminum and padauk wood.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
