Description

“There was something special, almost regal, about the combination of colors that was starting to emerge while I was building it. The idea came to my mind, many years ago, when I casually saw a photo of a Gibson Firebird built with two different woods, a bright color one in the central band and another dark one for the wings. The idea convinced me immediately and when I found myself with two padauk boards and one quilted maple board in the laboratory, I no longer had any doubts and I launched myself into the construction of a Firebird style which had an almost regal air, or rather no, a papal one.”… Let’s Play

This instrument, entirely hand-built, is evidently inspired by the ultra-known shapes of the Gibson “Firebird” model. The specifications in terms of body, fingerboard, neck and nut measurements are substantially equivalent to those of the original model. The substantial difference of the version I present here, compared to the original Gibson, is the absence of the neck-thru construction system, in this case replaced by the classic set-in joint system. The banjo-type tuners shown in the photos were later replaced with a new, more suitable set from Steinberger Gearless. The fretboard custom dots are made of aluminum and padauk wood.
