Description
“Really, I don’t know exactly why I built this instrument. I don’t even know where the inspiration came from, I imagine from the desire to exaggerate the conceptual terms that we are used to absorbing every time we think of the guitar instrument. That desire for experimentation that gives you a taste for subtle madness, in fact, can be a powerful motivation and I don’t rule out that this was the main reason. Unknowingly going crazy to explore the taste of the things you build and experience. A good reason, after all.”… Let’s Play
Demo video coming soon.
This guitar, in super-jumbo format, is clearly inspired by the archtop acoustic instruments in circulation since the beginning of the last century, with a central listening hole, before the advent of acoustic guitars with soundboards and flat backs that we are used to commonly seen today. The challenge consisted in reproducing a model for jazz repertoire with flat wound strings that could offer, from the point of view of expressiveness in terms of acoustic performance, a better experience in sound performance and musical depth. I believe that the objective was achieved and the choice of a non-standard body in terms of thickness and a spruce soundboard with “X” bracing contributed significantly.
All the archtop models presented on these pages are entirely hand-built by the luthier Emanuele D’Alò, owner of the Shank Instruments Milano brand. The instruments are guaranteed for life and both the soundboards and backs are handmade from solid quarter-sawn boards.
